Is your business adapting

Unfortunately being too responsive to every whim and fancy is also a quick way to poverty.

To avoid over or under reacting to information requires clear strategy with a strong understanding of the assumptions and a reliable measurement of how things are progressing.  With such understanding it is possible to test if the "new" information is a rule change or just a distraction.

Good strategy is possibly more important than it has been in the last 100 years. Things were a bit like this 100 years ago when there was significant change in who succeeded - oil was not a significant source of wealth in 1880 conversely a remarkable list of Cart Makers went out of business because of the advantages of engines - not because their carts were no good or lacked features or because their clients stopped liking them.

We have all heard that buggy whip makers went out of business.  Actually some buggy whip makers did well and the best players ended up owning the industry. There are likely to be a couple of ways that happened.  The easiest would have been to adopt a strong sales and marketing focus in an industry that had historically been able to succeed based on location and quality.

Have you thought about what the changes in the world mean for your skill set and business?  And have you started to make the changes necessary to succeed.
