Cars their Colour and FBT 06-06-2011

Even so found a steal - absolutely beautiful little VW Passat. What a nice drive. A bit strange when the motor turns off at the traffic lights. It turns back on when one releases the brake - saves 10% in gas so they say. Any way didn't buy it as, apparently, dark blue would make me look old(er). Came home and did the maths on whether to pay FBT (have the company own the car) or charge reimbursement (I own the car). Sounds simple but to do that means thinking about the hassle of log books, probable kms each year, cost of the car, fuel consumption etc etc For me on a $50k car doing 30,000km pa FBT makes sense. But everybody is different. One other thing is that I suspect the IRD rate of 70c a km is a bit light for most of us.
